CBN News presented this Tuesday (8) another edition of "50 Debates para o Brasil," a series that discusses relevant topics for the country's future and the October elections. The proposal is to gather specialists with different perspectives to offer arguments that help listeners form their own opinions.
This edition's program debated the federalization of public security, a topic that gains relevance given the advance of criminal organizations that operate in different states, move resources across several regions, and maintain international connections, while police forces still face difficulties sharing information and coordinating investigations.
The Federal Constitution keeps civil, military, and prison police forces subordinate to state governors. The Union, on the other hand, is responsible for institutions such as the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police.
Since 2018, the Unified Public Security System has provided for joint, coordinated, and integrated action between federal and state agencies, however the effectiveness of this integration is still a matter of debate among specialists.
