The Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, announced that the PSP reorganization plan in Lisbon, Porto, and Setúbal will allow around 500 police officers to be released to the streets, 200 of them to the capital.
The announcement was made during a parliamentary hearing at the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Liberties and Guarantees, where the minister is being heard.
According to Luís Neves, the PSP presented to the Government a reorganization plan in these three cities, which will allow redistributing human resources currently assigned to administrative or other functions to street patrolling.
The plan aims to improve police presence on public roads and address growing concerns about security in the country's main cities.
