André Mendonça removes Andrei Rodrigues from PF leadership

oglobo8 September 2026 at 12:46

Justice André Mendonça of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) determined on Tuesday (8) the removal of Andrei Rodrigues from his position as director-general of the Federal Police. The measure also affected delegate Leandro Almada, who was removed from the police intelligence directorate of the corporation.

According to Mendonça, the removal was necessary so that STF justices, the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, and Federal Police servers could exercise their attributions without "illegal constraints."

The decision occurs amid an escalation of the crisis shaking the STF. Justice Alexandre de Moraes used anonymous reports from the Federal Police to accuse Mendonça of having committed the crimes of abuse of authority, crime of responsibility, and administrative improbity in conducting the Banco Master and INSS cases.

The Banco Master and INSS cases refer to two billion-dollar corruption schemes that affected political leaders of different ideological stripes.
