A man was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer on Tuesday morning, on Corrêa Dutra Street, at the corner with Rua do Catete, in the Catete neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone. The suspect tried to rob the off-duty police officer and also allegedly announced a robbery against a newspaper stand at the location.
The off-duty officer told agents from the 2nd BPM (Botafogo) that he reacted to the approach by shooting at the suspect. The man died at the crime scene. Fire department teams were called and took the body to the Medical Legal Institute (IML), in downtown Rio.
A .32 caliber revolver, ammunition, a cell phone, R$312, and a motorcycle were seized from the suspect. The full circumstances of the case are still being investigated by authorities.
