Giant waves invade homes and frighten residents at beach in USA

extra8 September 2026 at 11:50

Giant waves caused by Tropical Storm Marie hit homes and commercial establishments along the waterfront in Long Beach, California (USA), on the late afternoon of Monday, October 7th. The force of the waves was so intense that water reached the rooftops of the homes, generating frightening images and causing the evacuation of dozens of houses.

Long Beach firefighters went through several residences, issuing evacuation warnings for those situated directly next to the coastal protection wall. The city's Department of Public Works was also sent to the site to assess the structural integrity of the affected dwellings.

According to experts interviewed by the news outlet, the protection wall was compromised, in addition to existing damage to the boardwalk in the area. Local authorities also reported the existence of cracks and damage to the concrete between some of the houses.

Sand barriers, built to contain the ocean's advance, broke apart under the force of the waves, covering several areas with sand. The situation kept residents on alert while authorities continued monitoring the effects of the storm on the coastal region.
