Thirty municipalities at maximum fire danger despite temperature drop

Expresso8 September 2026 at 12:10

Thirty municipalities in mainland Portugal present maximum rural fire danger, according to the National Agricultural and Veterinary Research Institute. Despite the temperature drop recorded in several regions of the country, the fire risk remains extremely high.

The rural fire danger should continue very high in some regions at least until the end of the week. This situation is due in part to the meteorological conditions that persist, even with the thermal cooling.

The alert covers municipalities from various areas of the national territory, encompassing both the northern and central interior as well as other regions. The authorities continue to call for vigilance and the adoption of preventive behaviors by the population.

Giant waves invade homes and frighten residents at beach in USA

Giant waves caused by Tropical Storm Marie invaded homes and commercial establishments along the waterfront in Long Beach, California (USA), on Monday (9/7). Firefighters went through several residences issuing evacuation warnings for those located next to the compromised coastal protection wall. The force of the waves was so intense that water reached the rooftops, causing cracks and damage to the concrete between some houses. The Long Beach Department of Public Works was sent to the site to assess the structural integrity of the homes, and sand barriers built to contain the ocean's advance broke apart, covering the sand area.
