The General Inspectorate of Health Activities (IGAS) is moving forward with an inspection action at Hospital Garcia de Orta, in Almada, due to the suspension of voluntary pregnancy interruptions (IVG) at that hospital unit.
The user commissions of Almada and Seixal expressed concern about this situation, fearing that the suspension of the IVG service at the hospital could become permanent.
Hospital Garcia de Orta is the only hospital unit in the Setúbal Peninsula that performed this type of procedure, which worsens the user commissions' concern regarding the impact the suspension will have on women in the region.
The user commissions warn that, if the suspension continues, women in the southern part of Setúbal district will be left without access to this service in the region, forcing them to travel to Lisbon.
