The Inspectorate-General for Health Activities (IGAS) is investigating Hospital Garcia de Orta after the suspension of unwanted pregnancy consultations at this hospital unit. The supervisory entity intends to clarify the circumstances of this decision and understand if it was effectively put into practice.
The investigation also focuses on how healthcare is being ensured for patients in the region who used these consultations at the hospital. IGAS wants to ensure there are no failures in access to services for women who needed this care.
Hospital Garcia de Orta, located in the Setúbal district, is one of the main hospital units in the area and its family planning and voluntary termination of pregnancy services are used by patients from various municipalities in the hospital's area of influence.
