The bandstand and the gate accessing the gardens of the Museu da República through Aterro do Flamengo will be restored in the third phase of the RevivaRio Museu da República project. Both structures, which show wear caused by the passage of time, will receive conservation work with an investment of R$ 1.6 million.
Built in the 1890s, during the adaptation of the former Palácio do Catete to serve as the seat of the Presidency of the Republic, the bandstand was incorporated into the landscaping project created by Frenchman Paul Villon, responsible for the redesign of the gardens in 1896.
The property, which until then was the residence of the Baron of Nova Friburgo, became the seat of the federal government during this period. Originally an external pavilion, the space was transformed into a place for music and social gatherings, following the tradition of the era's bandstands.
