Pampas grass, an invasive plant, has already spread to more than 200 Portuguese municipalities, representing a growing threat to local ecosystems. Hélia Marchante, a researcher at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra, warned about the lack of control of this invasive species in the country.
The specialist emphasized the need for coordinated action to combat the spread of the plant, which can cause significant damage to the biodiversity and natural habitats of Portugal.
According to the article, the ICNF (Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests) action plan to address this issue remains unrealized, meaning it has not yet been officially presented.
