Bruno Sarmento, researcher at the Institute of Investigation and Innovation in Health (i3S) at the University of Porto, received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at the University of Buenos Aires. This honor recognizes the significant impact of his work in the areas of pharmaceutical technology, nanomedicine, and advanced drug delivery systems, areas in which he leads the research group Nanomedicines & Translational Drug Delivery at i3S.
The University of Buenos Aires highlighted the relevance of his studies and his essential contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge, as well as his active role in international projects and the training of professionals from various nations. Bruno Sarmento stated that the distinction represents not only a personal recognition but also a tribute to his group's work and the ongoing collaboration with the Argentine institution.
The scientist emphasized the importance of effective scientific collaboration between different countries in promoting innovation and the production of new knowledge, also expressing a strong commitment to training new generations of researchers. His academic trajectory includes a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2002 and a doctorate in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology in 2007, both from the University of Porto.
Currently, Bruno Sarmento is a principal investigator at i3S and an Associate Professor (Invited) at the University Institute of Health Sciences, dedicating himself to the development of technologies for the treatment of metabolic, inflammatory, and oncological diseases. With over 550 scientific publications, he has been a member of the i3S Board of Directors since 2020 and chairs the Controlled Release Society, one of the main international associations in the field of drug delivery technologies.
