The Junta de Freguesia de Benfica do Ribatejo issued a public appeal to the population following an incident that occurred during the weekend at the Largo Dr. Moita garden, in Cortiçóis. Someone disconnected the timer of the garden's irrigation system, which left the grass several days without water and put the condition and maintenance of that green space at risk.
The situation prompted a warning notice from the parish council, which calls on everyone's collaboration so that the irrigation equipment is not damaged or tampered with. The council emphasizes that the grass was left several days without receiving the necessary water and came very close to being seriously damaged.
The council recalls that the garden is a space for everyone, a place of leisure and gathering for children and families, and that its maintenance requires not only the daily work of those who care for it, but also the respect of those who use it. The local authority appeals to each citizen's sense of responsibility in preserving common spaces.
