The Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED) warned that fuels with prices above two euros will end up affecting supermarket prices. The association states that the increase in costs will be transversal across the entire value chain, from production to the final consumer.
APED acknowledges that the increase in fuel prices will have an impact on the operational costs of distribution companies, which will see their expenses on transport, logistics, and storage increase significantly.
According to the association, the reflection of these increased costs in the prices paid by consumers in supermarkets is inevitable, although APED states that this increase will be felt "sooner or later" in the final prices of products.
The association did not specify when or to what extent consumers may feel these increases in their shopping, maintaining only the certainty that the higher costs of fuels will eventually be transferred to the price of products sold in Portuguese supermarkets.
