The Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg) presented the 2026 edition of the Algarve Freshman Reception, which will take place between September 17 and 26. The initiative, which annually welcomes over a thousand new students, this year comes with a new visual identity, a renewed concept, and a new venue at the Municipal Swimming Pools Complex in Faro, in a partnership between AAUAlg and the Faro City Council.
The main novelty is the change of venue, which will consist of two interconnected areas with a phased opening. The Freshman Reception begins on September 17 with the Academic Festival at the Penha Campus, later moving to the new space. Between September 18 and 22, only one of the areas will be open, intended for socializing and accompanied by music. From September 23 onwards, the second area will also open, with the entire venue operating simultaneously until the 26th, featuring different artists, activities, and dynamics.
The 2026 edition is based on a broader concept of integration, seeking not only to welcome new students but also to engage them with the existing student community. The goal is to facilitate the creation of relationships between students from different courses and years, bringing freshmen closer to students who already attend the University of Algarve. The organization intends for all students to participate in the initiative, regardless of the academic structures they belong to.
