Residents of Covilhã now have access to a new Municipal Card, available since last week on the gov.pt platform. This virtual document contains personal information about residents, such as their address, and could in the future enable access to municipal services and benefits.
The mayor of Covilhã, Hélio Fazendeiro, highlighted this new card as an instrument of administrative modernization, describing it as a kind of "citizen card" for Covilhã residents. The information was shared on October 4th, at the end of the Covilhã executive meeting.
Hélio Fazendeiro added that the card could allow the attachment of other relevant information and possibilities for residents, namely the municipal social card, emergency benefits, and access to municipal infrastructure and facilities. Currently, the card exists only in virtual format, but may have a physical version in the future.
The mayor also acknowledged that, if the card is created in physical format, the current municipal social card could be integrated into the new digital solution, thus replacing the existing physical card.
