PS will abstain on the motion of censure presented by Chega

SAPO Notícias8 September 2026 at 08:01

The PS (Socialist Party) will abstain on the motion of censure against the Government presented by Chega. This decision was made after José Luís Carneiro, who is the first secretary of the PS, proposed this position to the party's National Secretariat.

The National Secretariat validated José Luís Carneiro's proposal, giving its approval to this position. The PS considers that the motion of censure will not bring down the Government, which justifies its decision to abstain rather than vote against or in favor.

José Luís Carneiro also has a meeting scheduled for this Tuesday with the PS parliamentary group. This meeting comes following the validation of the party's position on the motion of censure.
