The Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, was heard on Tuesday in a regulatory hearing in parliament, before the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees. The hearing took place at 10:00 AM, before the debate and vote on Chega's motion of censure against the Government, which is guaranteed to be rejected.
Luís Neves was expected to be confronted by deputies with various controversies surrounding his tenure, referring to the period when he was national director of the Judicial Police. The minister stated last week that he would be available to answer any questions, including from Chega's leader, André Ventura.
The Government has been under pressure for nearly two months. Suspicions of irregularities in private works on the minister's property in Odemira have been reported, namely the construction of a swimming pool carried out by a friend contractor who won 17 contracts with the PJ. This was followed by news about the delivery to the same contractor of a trailer seized in Operation Pacoba against drug trafficking, with chemical drums inside.
There are also questions about the non-submission of asset declarations to the Entity for Transparency and the Constitutional Court, and the driving of a car seized by court order in the case that convicted Ruben Oliveira, 'Xuxas', to 20 years in prison. The cases involving the trailer, the car, and the works in Odemira are being investigated by the Public Ministry, which also includes a case at the Administrative and Tax Court of Beja and another at the Court of Auditors.
