Gisèle Pelicot is the woman who for a decade, more than 200 times, was drugged, raped and offered to another 80 men by her own husband, with whom she had been married for 50 years. The abuses occurred while she was unconscious, without any knowledge of what was being done to her.
The story caused horror worldwide, becoming a case that drew international attention to sexual abuse crimes in the marital context. Gisèle's husband was identified as responsible for this prolonged cycle of violence and breach of marital trust.
Today, Gisèle Pelicot feels recovered from the shock she suffered and considers herself a woman who has rebuilt herself, describing her healing process as something erected "on a field of ruins." She wrote an autobiographical book that documents her experience and her journey of recovery.
With the publication of her autobiography, Gisèle now tries to reach out to other women who have been through similar experiences, offering support and showing that it is possible to overcome such deep traumas.
