Argentina takes Israeli oil company Navitas to court for operating in the Maldives

RTP Notícias8 September 2026 at 06:40

Argentina's Presidency announced on Monday that it will file a criminal complaint against several subsidiaries of Israeli oil company Navitas. The accusation is that these companies are operating without authorization from the South American country in the Falkland Islands.

The Falkland Islands have been under British administration since 1833. Argentina considers the islands its territory and considers any economic activity or natural resource exploration in these lands without its consent illegal.

The oil company Navitas, of Israeli origin, is the company targeted by this legal process. The Argentine government argues that the company has no legitimacy to carry out operations in the region without the proper authorization from Argentine authorities.

This legal action is part of the long-standing dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom over control of the Falkland Islands, a question that remains unresolved since the armed conflict in 1982 between the two countries.

With no future in sight, the far-right came riding a light-blue motorcycle from the GDR

The article analyzes the rise of the far-right in Germany, particularly the AfD's success in the former GDR territories, exploring how candidates like Ulrich Siegmund used nostalgia for East Germany, including vehicles like the light-blue Simson motorcycle, to mobilize voters. The text argues that, beyond immigration, the party capitalized on the trauma of a failed reunification and the destruction of 2.5 million jobs in East German industry, in a context where capitalism no longer promises prosperity to the new generations. The left, heir to the values of the GDR, appears to have lost its political grammar in this territory in mourning.
