Cuba denounced on Monday that the United States embargo caused damages of more than $8 billion (approximately R$41 billion) between March 2025 and February 2026, a "record value" that, according to the Cuban government, does not even reflect the impact of the oil blockade imposed by Washington.
The estimate was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, before the annual vote on the embargo at the UN General Assembly, scheduled for October. The value reaches $8.083 billion and exceeds by 7% the record registered a year earlier.
Rodríguez stated that the value does not include the damages from the energy blockade nor the secondary sanctions, referring to the measures adopted by the Donald Trump government this year. Since January, Washington has threatened to sanction countries that supply fuel to Cuba, intensifying pressure on the island.
