The Government of Timor-Leste and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) discussed the country's preparation for the effects of the El Niño phenomenon. The meeting served to identify and discuss the risks associated with this climate phenomenon.
The El Niño phenomenon affecting Timor-Leste is predicted to be very intense. Its estimated duration extends until February 2027, which represents a prolonged period of adverse weather conditions.
Both parties agreed on the need to prepare the country to face this situation. The collaboration between the Timorese government and the United Nations aims to minimize the negative impacts that El Niño may have on the country's population and economy.
