Brazilian cities continue to expand significantly. From 2019 to 2022, urban Brazil gained nearly 6,000 km², representing growth of 12.3%, according to IBGE's "Mapping of Urbanized Areas."

Brasília ranks first in the ranking of municipalities where urban nuclei grew the most, with 72 km² of expansion. The urban growth of the federal capital is mainly concentrated in satellite cities such as Taguatinga and Ceilândia.
