Thirteen retired ministers of the Supreme Federal Court signed this Monday a letter addressed to the Court president, Edson Fachin, asking for the urgent convening of a public session so that the plenary determines an immediate and rigorous investigation of the facts affecting the court.
The former magistrates classify the current moment as the sharpest crisis in the STF's history, without directly mentioning ministers André Mendonça and Alexandre de Moraes, although the disclosed facts are related to a conflict between these two ministers. The letter states that the facts are compromising the prestige and authority of the Court, the public's trust, and the stability of democratic institutions.
The retired ministers express full confidence in Fachin's seriousness, discernment, and firmness in leading the court during this crisis, and express absolute conviction that he will designate, with all urgency, a public session to address the matter.
