Odemira commemorated this Tuesday, June 8th, its municipal holiday, with a ceremony promoted by the City Council and the Municipal Assembly to celebrate Municipality Day. The ceremony took place at the Misericórdia Church, at 11:00 am, and included the awarding of municipal merit medals.
Two citizens were distinguished with municipal merit medals. António Manuel Nobre Louçã, from São Teotónio, was recognized for his contribution to the economic and agricultural development of the municipality, after having been at the helm of the Caixa de Crédito Agrícola de São Teotónio for 40 years. Deodato Inácio dos Santos, teacher, sculptor, writer and cultural animator, received the distinction for the work developed in the areas of culture, education and sport.
After the official ceremony, the traditional social lunch open to the population followed, accompanied by moments of cante with "Moços do Mira". During the afternoon, religious celebrations took place in honor of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, with a solemn mass and procession.
At the end of the day, the program included the theater-circus show "The Rock", by Mr. Copini, as part of the 7 Sóis 7 Luas Festival, moments of informal cante with "Entre Vozes" and a concert by the group "Com Alma".
