Brazil celebrated, this Monday, Independence Day in the context of an electoral campaign and less than a month before the general elections scheduled for October 4. The country is going through a period of institutional turbulence due to a corruption case that affects the Brazilian political and judicial system.
The Brazilian President, Lula da Silva, who is seeking re-election, participated in the morning in the traditional civic-military parade in Brasília to mark the 204th anniversary of the official proclamation of Brazil's separation from Portugal.
The celebration took place during the campaign for the October elections, in which Lula is running to be elected President of Brazil once again.
