The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, rejected this Monday the accusation by the PS (Socialist Party) that the State is financially benefiting from the rise in fuel prices. The minister considered that the data presented by the socialists compares different periods and realities.
Maria da Graça Carvalho stated that the Government has already allocated more than 700 million euros in support measures for citizens in the face of rising energy prices. The minister's position comes in response to criticism from the Socialist Party about the way the executive manages tax revenue from fuels.
The PS has been questioning whether the increase in tax burden on fuels represents an extraordinary profit for the State, at a time when Portuguese families face growing difficulties with the cost of living. However, the executive argues that the comparison made by the socialists does not reflect the current reality of the support policies implemented.
