The Portuguese State bought a 13.7% stake in REN (Redes Energéticas Nacionais) from the Zara owner, Amancio Ortega. The operation was carried out through Parpública, the Portuguese State's business holding company.
Amancio Ortega's holding company announced that it had already sold 91.7 million shares of REN to Parpública. This sale was completed after verification of a contract condition that required prior approval from the Court of Auditors.
The price of the transaction was not disclosed to the public. This is an operation that allows the Portuguese State to increase its stake in an energy sector company, at a time of growing strategic importance for energy infrastructure.
