The American singer and conductor Jon Batiste performed at Rock in Rio's Palco Mundo. The crowd wasn't as full as in the previous shows by Roupa Nova with Guilherme Arantes and in competition with Belo, but there was an excited audience in front of the stage. Batiste appeared wearing a blue Brazilian shirt, bought from a street vendor, with the number 9 on the back.
At the front of a large band with drummers, he started the show with the song "Worship", commanding the audience in a na-na-na. He demonstrated skill with a melodica, that small wind keyboard, before picking up an acoustic guitar. New Orleans music invaded Palco Mundo, the style for which he is known.
His most famous song, "Freedom", came next. Before it, he asked the audience: "I need to feel your freedom!" and then sat at the piano, his main instrument, showing his musical class at the keys.
