The Portuguese Government intends to promote technical higher professional courses (CTeSP), which after a decade of existence face significant problems of attractiveness, employability and low wages. Graduates from these courses continue to be excluded from public administration careers, which represents a gap in the recognition of these qualifications.
Funding, employability and recognition by the State and public administration careers constitute the main challenges identified after 10 years of existence of CTeSP. Joaquim Mourato, president of a higher education institution, presented this diagnosis about the difficulties these courses face.
Technical higher professional courses were created to train professionals for the labor market, but the data reveal that they have not been able to fully fulfill this objective. Low employability and reduced wages drive away potential students, contributing to the lack of attractiveness of these courses.
The Government now intends to move forward with measures that allow these training programs to be promoted, making them more attractive and ensuring better professional prospects for their graduates. Recognition of the competencies acquired through technical higher professional courses by the public administration is considered essential for the success of these training programs.
