The pediatric emergency department service of Portimão Hospital was closed for three days due to lack of human resources. This situation forced Algarve families to seek pediatric emergency care at other health facilities.
During the closure period, users had to travel to other hospitals in the region, some at considerable distances. Faro Hospital was one of the alternatives available to families who needed urgent pediatric care.
The temporary closure of the service was due exclusively to limitations in the human resources available at the Algarve hospital. The specific reasons for this shortage of professionals were not specified.
