Manhole releases smoke and scares pedestrians at Largo do Machado, in Rio's South Zone

A manhole released an intense amount of smoke in Largo do Machado, in Catete, Rio de Janeiro's South Zone, on Monday afternoon. The incident was registered near number 11 on the street, after being contacted by the Municipal Conservation Secretariat (Seconserva).

The Center for Operations and Resilience (COR-Rio) confirmed the incident and videos made by pedestrians show the smoke coming out of the drainage system and spreading across the public road.

The Light utility company was called to handle the case and the Fire Department was also informed about the incident. To ensure safety during the response, one traffic lane of the road had to be closed.

As of publication time, there were no reports of injuries. Light was contacted for comment, but the response was not included in the article.
