Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, backed down and annulled a high-level working group on Defense that had been announced the previous week. The decision represents a reversal of the initial plan presented by the European official.
The working group had been announced by Kallas on the same day that Germany attributed the drone incidents at Leipzig airport to Russia. The timing of the announcement also coincided with an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Ireland.
Among the members planned to join the group was Gomes Cravinho, Portugal's Defense Minister. The inclusion of the Portuguese official was part of Kallas's original plans for the high-level working group.
