Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, warned that several political parties in Europe are ignoring the threat posed by Russia. Her statements came following the victory of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the German federal elections.
Kallas expressed particular concern over the growth of political forces that downplay the risks associated with sabotage and hybrid warfare conducted by Russia. According to the European official, these parties demonstrate a stance she classifies as "blind" to the existing dangers.
The EU's chief diplomat stressed that the AfD's victory represents a significant example of this worrying trend in European politics. The right-wing populist party has frequently been associated with positions favorable toward Russia.
This warning comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in Europe remain high, and European authorities have been reinforcing warnings about possible attempts at foreign interference in the democratic processes of member states.
