The Leiria City Council, with a socialist majority, approved today the maintenance of Property Tax (IMI), derrama and IRS rates for 2027. The municipality justifies this decision with the need to support families and boost the local economy.
The mayor of Leiria highlighted that maintaining these rates aims to avoid overburdening taxpayers in a challenging economic context. This position comes at a time when many municipalities have been adjusting their fiscal policies.
The three taxes in question have a direct impact on the budgets of families and businesses in the municipality. IMI applies to properties, the derrama is a municipal tax on corporate profits, and IRS refers to the municipality's share in the tax revenue of resident taxpayers.
With this deliberation, Leiria remains one of the municipalities with the most competitive taxation in the central region. The proposal will still be submitted to the Municipal Assembly for final approval.
