The Angolan government announced today a new social security service for public servants that will allow them to pay for goods and services in installments, in addition to other benefits. The measure results from the restructuring of the current Social Security Fund and aims to guarantee the Public Administration benefits that already exist in the private sector.
António Estote, member of the RINAR technical group (Roadmap for the Implementation of...), explained that the restructuring aims to bring public servant social security services closer to what is already offered to private sector workers.
The newspaper Folha 8 classifies the initiative as a "vote hunt" for public servants, accusing the MPLA government of mobilizing all available resources to deceive the Angolans, in a reference to the proximity of elections and the 50 years of power of the party.
According to the publication, this measure fits into an electoral mobilization strategy, comparing it to practices that have been used over the past decades by the ruling party in Angola.
