The Porto City Council approved two days of municipal mourning for the death of Nuno Cardoso, former president of the municipality. The decision was made in tribute to the political career and legacy of the former mayor for the city.
Pedro Duarte, current municipal leader, highlighted the fundamental role of Nuno Cardoso in the transformation of Porto. The former mayor was recognized for his work in the modernization of the city, including the Metro system works.
The municipality also remembered Nuno Cardoso's involvement in the cultural project Porto 2001, European Capital of Culture. This initiative was marked in the city's history as an important moment of cultural and urban renewal.
The municipal mourning declaration aims to pay tribute to one of the leaders who contributed to the city's evolution over the past decades. The mourning measures will take effect shortly to symbolically mark the memory of the former president.
