Tomar City Council approved the implementation of a tourist tax, expecting to collect approximately 300 thousand euros per year with this measure. The decision comes in a context of growth in the tourism sector in the municipality.
The municipality recorded approximately 171 thousand overnight stays in 2025, which demonstrates the significant volume of visitors the city receives annually and justifies the creation of this tax.
The tourist tax aims to contribute to the financing of infrastructures and services related to tourism, allowing investment in the quality of visitors' experience and in the preservation of local heritage.
With the approval of this measure, Tomar joins other Portuguese municipalities that have already implemented similar taxes to generate additional revenue from tourism activity.
