A 71-year-old woman, Therese Garcia, is hospitalized in serious condition after being brutally beaten inside her home in Crestline, California. The attack was carried out with a baseball bat and left the elderly woman with serious injuries.
The suspect is Erik Eduardo Navarro, 26 years old, who is still being sought by authorities. According to reports from the family to NBC Los Angeles and CBS News, Navarro approached Garcia last month while she was sitting on the porch of her home.
Navarro claimed he had lost all his belongings and needed help before a job interview at a nearby hardware store. Touched by his story, the elderly woman allowed him to stay in her home and began preparing meals for him for several days.
According to the victim's daughter, Abbie Garcia, the attack reportedly occurred after she asked Navarro to leave the house. The suspect has not yet been captured by authorities.
