Norway limits foreign delegations and leaves Bolaños out of Harald V's funeral due to lack of space

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General7 September 2026 at 16:03

Spanish Minister Félix Bolaños will not be able to accompany Felipe VI, Letizia, and Queen Sofía at the state funeral of King Harald V of Norway, which will be held this Wednesday at Oslo Cathedral. Bolaños had expressed his intention to join the Spanish delegation at the funeral rites.

The Norwegian Royal House imposed significant restrictions on the number of foreign guests due to space limitations in the cathedral. International delegations were asked to reduce their representation to a minimum and not to send ministers to the ceremony.

The state funeral of King Harald V represents an event of great international relevance, which makes the access restrictions particularly significant for countries that intended to be represented at the highest political level.
