Over a thousand migrants landed in Senegal and Mauritania at the end of August, after surviving an attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean towards the Canary Islands. The organization Doctors Without Borders reported that a total of 1,046 Africans arrived in a state of great vulnerability on the African coast in the last week of August.

The people landed in three cities in West Africa: Nouadhibou, in Mauritania, and Rosso and Dakar, in Senegal. These cities are located on the Atlantic migratory route, which is known to be extremely dangerous for migrants attempting to reach the Canary Islands from the west African coast.
