Two people die within two-day span at Burning Man festival

extra7 September 2026 at 15:30

Two people died during the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock desert, in Nevada, United States, within a two-day span. The festival, known for its libertarian philosophy and counterculture, attracts tens of thousands of participants and includes attractions such as the Orgy Dome.

The deaths occur almost one year after a Russian citizen was found dead from stab wounds inside a tent at the festival, a homicide that remains unsolved to this day.

On Saturday afternoon (9/5), Craig Mann, 60 years old, was found dead by campmates in Black Rock City, according to a statement from the Burning Man Project, the event's organizer. The cause of death has not yet been released. The organization expressed condolences to Mann's family, friends, and campmates.

Mann's death occurred two days after another participant, a man in his 50s, suffered a sudden illness during the festival.
