BRAGANÇA REINFORCES ELECTRIC MOBILITY WITH SIX NEW BUSES

Canal N – Notícias – Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro7 September 2026 at 14:54

Bragança is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility with the commissioning of six new 100% electric buses, accompanied by four chargers for the municipal fleet. The total investment is around 2.45 million euros, of which 1.58 million euros come from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, through the Environmental Fund. The new fleet consists of one urban bus and five interurban buses, with different capacities and equipment adapted for passengers with reduced mobility.

The new vehicles are expected to allow an estimated reduction of 185.63 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year, as well as improve comfort and safety of travel and reduce noise on public roads. The Municipality of Bragança has also launched a procedure to install 40 new electric vehicle charging points at different locations in the city, intended for residents, businesses and visitors.

The municipality's public charging network already has more than 50 charging points throughout the council and was recently reinforced with an 180 kW ultra-fast charger. The local authority is also preparing the creation of an "Energy Island" at the Freight Terminal of the Bus Station, a project that includes approximately 420 photovoltaic panels, a storage system and fast chargers, in an estimated investment of 744 thousand euros.

At the same time, the Bragança Urban Transport Service is updating its management systems and passenger information, including the bus station timetable management software. With these investments, the municipality aims to modernize public transport, expand charging infrastructure and create conditions for increasing use of renewable energy in the municipality's mobility.
