One of the last working Apple-1 computers goes to auction in New York, including a letter signed by Steve Jobs. The Apple-1 was released in 1976 and is one of the first personal computers in history. The device is considered an extremely rare and valuable collector's piece.

The auction lot includes the Apple-1 unit duly authenticated as functional, as well as Steve Jobs' handwritten letter. Both pieces bear the signature of Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple. The computer comes with original period documentation.

This model was one of the first produced by Apple, at the time a startup in their founders' garage. The combination of the working machine with Jobs' letter makes this lot particularly special for technology collectors and Apple memorabilia enthusiasts.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is planning to invest between $1 million and $2 million in purchasing Spot quadruped robots from Boston Dynamics for immigration operations in the US. Each unit costs starting at $75,000 and is equipped with 360-degree cameras and sensors to detect dangerous gases, and can climb stairs and navigate uneven terrain. According to DHS, the robots will be used for inspection, monitoring, and risk assessment in dangerous environments, not for carrying out arrests. The bidding process is expected to open in September, with a contract planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. The Spot is already used by other American security agencies, such as the Secret Service and the Los Angeles police, but a similar program was canceled in New York in 2022 after public criticism. The purchase is part of a broader expansion of ICE equipment, which recorded nearly 50,000 detentions in July.
