The National Federation of Education today requested clarification from the Ministry of Education regarding the number of teachers missing in schools for the beginning of the school year. The federation wants to obtain concrete information about the situation of teachers in educational institutions.
The FNE also expressed its concern about the capacity of the educational system to guarantee the normal functioning of schools at this initial phase of the school year, highlighting the difficulties that are already being felt throughout the country.
In addition to the requests for information, the federation demanded that the government implement policy changes that allow teachers to be retained in schools where they are most needed, addressing the structural problem of the distribution of teachers across the territory.
This is not the first time that the FNE has warned about the difficulties in hiring and retaining teachers, having advocated for measures that make the profession more attractive and that respond to the real needs of Portuguese schools.
