The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party, José Luís Carneiro, accused the Government of profiting from the increase in the cost of fuels in Portugal. This accusation was made on the sidelines of a visit he made to the city of Tui, in Spain.
Carneiro insisted that the executive is financially benefiting from the rise in fuel prices, suggesting that consumers are bearing a greater burden than necessary.
The socialist leader also stated that the Portuguese economy has the conditions for fuel prices to come down. This declaration comes in the context of an official visit to Spanish territory, where he took the opportunity to comment on the national economic situation.
José Luís Carneiro's position comes as part of the Socialist Party's strategy to contest the Government's economic policy regarding energy and fuel prices.
