The largest industrial CO2 capture and storage facility in Europe was inaugurated in the Netherlands. The new plant is expected to capture and store approximately 12 million tonnes of CO2 over the next 15 years.
The project is cross-border in nature, linking the Netherlands to another country through underground storage infrastructure. This initiative falls under the EU-Norway Green Alliance, an agreement signed in 2023 between the European Union and Norway.
With this facility, Europe takes a significant step towards meeting its climate targets and reducing industrial carbon emissions. The planned storage capacity represents a substantial contribution to the continent's decarbonisation efforts.
