Edson Fachin decides future of federal police report citing Moraes in Master case

cbn7 September 2026 at 12:51

The president of the Supreme Federal Court, Edson Fachin, is expected to decide this week whether to bring to the full court the federal police report that revealed messages sent by banker Daniel Vorcaro to a number attributed to Justice Alexandre de Moraes. Among the dialogues is a passage in which Vorcaro asks for guidance on whether he should leave the country.

The document was released for judgment this Sunday (6) by Justice André Mendonça, the rapporteur of the investigations into the suspected fraud at Banco Master. It now falls to Fachin to decide whether the case will be analyzed by the full court and when this will occur.

The expectation among interlocutors heard by CBN is that there will be some ruling after the September 7th holiday. According to reporting, Fachin is considering different possibilities. One of them is to submit the report to the ten justices currently on the Court. Another would be to make an individual decision.

The president of the Supreme Federal Court has been informally conversing with members of the court before defining the path.

Domestic Violence: Évora Court of Appeal Condemns Man Previously Acquitted in Reguengos de Monsaraz

The Évora Court of Appeal convicted a 32-year-old man to two and a half years of suspended imprisonment for aggravated domestic violence against a woman, overturning an acquittal verdict from the Reguengos de Monsaraz Court. In addition to the suspended sentence, the defendant must pay 5,000 euros to the victim, attend a domestic violence prevention program, and stay away from her. The appeal court considered that the evidentiary assessment of the first-instance court was "manifestly contrary to the rules of common experience" and that nothing prevents judicial conviction from being based on the exclusive testimony of the victim, especially in domestic violence cases where acts often occur without witnesses.
