Fuel prices in Portugal started the week with a significant increase, representing one of the biggest variations of recent weeks. Diesel increases 12 cents per liter and gasoline rises 10 cents, due to the strong escalation of oil prices on international markets. The Brent barrel closed trading at $96.28, representing a weekly increase of 7.80%.
This increase is due to the intensification of the military conflict with Iran and the new exchanges of air strikes with the United States, generating fears among investors regarding possible disruptions in crude oil supply from the Middle East.
To mitigate the impact on families and businesses, the Government announced a reinforcement of the discount on the Excise Duty on Petroleum Products. The Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, confirmed after the Council of Ministers that the tax reduction will increase by about three cents per liter, raising the total state support to 23 cents per liter for both fuels. Since the beginning of the geopolitical crisis, extraordinary measures have already mobilized over 300 million euros.
Drivers can find the most economical fuel stations through the Online Fuel Prices portal of the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology, filtering the search by municipality and district to get the updated list of the lowest prices for each type of fuel.
