EU detects flaws in 'online' advertisements for children's products and gyms

Correio da Manhã7 September 2026 at 12:19

The European Union carried out an enforcement action between May and July this year to verify 'online' advertisements for children's products and gyms. The objective was to identify advertising practices that are potentially misleading or non-compliant with European legislation.

During this operation, almost 1,700 offers were analyzed on 35 'online' markets across the European area. The enforcement focused on two specific sectors: products marketed to children and gym services.

As a result of this enforcement action, the competent authorities issued 560 orders regarding advertisements deemed non-compliant. These orders aim to correct the detected irregularities and protect consumers, particularly the most vulnerable, such as children.

The action is part of the EU's ongoing effort to ensure that 'online' advertising complies with consumer protection standards and that consumers receive clear and truthful information about the products and services advertised.

Dairy sector "deserves particular attention" and new support measures are being prepared

The Portuguese Government recognized that the dairy sector deserves particular attention given the escalation in production costs and the drop in prices paid to producers. A new intervention of 20 million euros, co-funded by the EU, is being prepared to support farmers affected by the increase in fertilizer costs, with support of 43 euros per hectare in irrigated land and 18 euros per hectare in dryland. An emergency support of 9.4 million euros from the Agricultural Reserve is also being prepared. The drop in milk prices since the beginning of the year will cost national producers around 72 million euros, with the average price paid to producers falling to 0.447 euros per kilogram, the lowest value since the beginning of the year.
