TAP privatization enters final stretch. Government gives more time to Air France-KLM and Lufthansa

SOL6 September 2026 at 11:50

The privatization of TAP has entered its final phase, with the Government extending the sale process until the end of the year. This decision comes at a critical moment in the disposal process of the Portuguese airline.

Air France-KLM and Lufthansa are the two groups remaining in the race to acquire TAP. The executive decided to give these two companies three more weeks to improve their initial proposals.

During this additional period, the two consortia must present revised versions of their offers, incorporating more favorable conditions for the Portuguese State.

After this deadline concludes, it will be up to the executive to choose the buyer of the reference stake in TAP, thus closing the privatization process of the national airline carrier.
